Motion Designer - Make Complexity Move

Location: Europe - Remote

Type: Full-time

About Kestra

Kestra is the Orchestration Control Plane of the AI Era — a general-purpose, open-source workflow orchestration platform trusted by engineering and data teams at JPMorgan Chase, Bloomberg, Apple, Toyota, BHP, Crédit Agricole, and Deutsche Telekom.

We just closed a $25M Series A (total $36M raised). 2 billion workflows executed in 2025. ~30,000 GitHub stars. 25x revenue growth since Seed.

We don't build forms and dashboards. We orchestrate data pipelines, infrastructure automation, business processes, and agentic AI workflows — at enterprise scale. Explaining that visually is genuinely hard. That's why this role exists.

The Role

We're looking for a Motion Designer based in Europe to bring Kestra's product and brand to life through movement.

This isn't about making things look pretty. It's about using motion to simplify the complex — turning high-level orchestration concepts into clear, engaging visual storytelling that engineers actually want to watch.

You won't be working on generic corporate videos. You'll be deep in the Kestra product: animating UI interactions, breaking down technical workflows, and producing high-impact content for product releases, our YouTube channel, and global events.

You need a strong graphic touch — the ability to respect our existing brand identity while pushing its creative boundaries.

You report to the Founding Designer and work closely with our UX Designer. Motion becomes a first-class citizen across both our marketing and our product interface.

What You'll Do

1 — Translate complexity into motion

Take intricate orchestration concepts — DAGs, triggers, parallel executions, event-driven pipelines — and turn them into animations that make sense at a glance. Your output is what makes a developer say "oh, that's how it works."

2 — Enhance the product experience

Design and implement micro-interactions and animated elements directly within the Kestra UI. Not decoration — motion that improves usability and creates moments of delight for technical users.

3 — Own high-stakes video production

End-to-end ownership of motion graphics for product releases, webinar intros, YouTube tutorials, and event teasers — from concept and storyboard to final export.

4 — Work with a hybrid animation workflow

Industry-standard tools (After Effects, Adobe suite) combined with code-based animation — CSS, Canvas, Lottie — for seamless web integration. You're comfortable using AI (Claude, Cursor) to generate and tweak animation code when it gets the job done faster.

5 — Push the brand forward

You don't just apply the brand guidelines — you evolve them. You propose new visual directions, reference what's cutting-edge in motion design, and keep Kestra's identity fresh without breaking consistency.

6 — Collaborate across the design system

Work hand-in-hand with the Founding Designer and UX Designer to ensure visual coherence from documentation to dashboard, from landing pages to release videos.

What We're Looking For

Must-have

  • Proven track record across both marketing motion graphics (polished, narrative-driven) and UI animations (functional, performant, purposeful) — not just one or the other

  • Expert-level After Effects and Adobe Creative Suite — you understand timing, easing, and the principles of motion that communicate meaning, not just movement

  • Strong design sensibility: typography, layout, color. You design the scene, not just move objects around it

  • Technical literacy: you're not afraid of complex products, you embrace them as creative challenges

  • Autonomy in a remote, async environment — you take a brief, ask the right questions, and deliver without constant hand-holding

  • Fluent English — you're creating content for a global engineering community

Strong plus

  • Coding skills: CSS/SVG animations, Lottie, Rive — web-native performance matters

  • Open source DNA: experience working with developer-tooling brands or OSS communities

  • 3D basics: Cinema 4D or Blender to add depth to product storytelling

  • Storyboarding: strong ability to sketch narratives before jumping into the software

Why Kestra

  • Series A company, moving fast — your work ships and gets seen

  • Small, senior design team: you have real creative ownership, not a ticket queue

  • Technical product with a genuine visual challenge — this is not a commodity design gig

  • Remote-first with a strong engineering culture

  • Open-source community of ~30K developers who will watch, use, and share what you make
